Financial District

Located on the eastern edge of downtown, Boston's Financial District houses some of the most influential investment firms in the United States. Amid the sprawling skyscrapers loom swank penthouses and condominiums owned by the wealthiest members of Boston community. Prices for the ornate penthouses and condos run deep into seven figures. Many of the owners work for major financial players in the national and international stock markets. Some of the pricey housing acts as temporary units for business professionals making extended visits to Beantown. The Financial District includes the private condominium complex, Custom Tower House, which sits near Chinatown, along Boston Harbor.

The Financial District includes svelte boutiques that sell high end fashion and expensive jewelry. Some of the finest chefs in America run kitchens in the Financial District. The South Station offer commuters several public transit options, as most of the system's lines travel under the Financial District. Amtrak also stops at the South Station for vacationers taking a few days off to ski the slopes of Vermont and New Hampshire. The Financial District contains a significant number of downtown Boston's skyscrapers that pack densely within a small area. Developers have little, if any open space to develop the Financial District and restrictions placed on developers by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston make development costly. 

Yet, the Financial District has witnessed some development along the waterfront. Russia Wharf climbs 32 stories to 395 feet to provide an impressive nighttime visual for residents that live in Charlestown and East Boston. The proposed construction of South Station Tower should rise to about the same height as the St. Louis Arch. Waterfront development complements the cultural attractions that include the New England Aquarium and Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The marketplace, which has served Bostonians for more than 200 years, features critically acclaimed seafood restaurants and avant garde fashion stores.
