Seaport District

The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) has transformed the once moribund Seaport District into one of the hottest neighborhoods found in the Boston Metropolitan area. Construction of the Interstate 90-93 interchange provided the impetus for the rebirth of the historic sub district of the South Boston neighborhood. After opening the interchange, commercial development led the way to the influx of affluent young professionals that preferred the more laid back lifestyle of the neighborhood than the frenetic nightlife of downtown Boston. Residents of Seaport District live among more than 50 restaurants, four five-star hotels, and nine world renowned attractions.

The "Big Dig" received national attention for the money wasted on the public works project. Billions of dollars of budget overruns later, the project helped establish the Seaport District neighborhood. The interchange that connected Interstates 90 and 93 provided suburban visitors a much quicker way to access Seaport District by car. As part of the Central Artery-Tunnel project, the expansion of the public transit silver line provides easy access for residents and workers for traveling to and from Seaport District. The "Big Dig" connects the Seaport neighborhood directly to downtown Boston, which encourages residential developers to build high rise apartments and condominiums.

Residents of the Seaport District live among some of Boston's most important venues. The Massachusetts Convention Center helps local small businesses reap the financial rewards generated by of out of town conventioneers. Seaport World Trade Center and the Institute of Contemporary Art enhance the property values of residents by keeping the cash register ringing within small businesses. Restaurants experience long waits for patrons that want to enjoy the fresh seafood pulled out of adjoining Boston Harbor and nearby Atlantic Ocean. The renaissance of Seaport district has led several real estate publications to call the neighborhood the fastest growing real estate market in the country.
