Moving forward from the Federal Period, art deco architecture sets the mood of the newer structures. Residents take immense care of the gas lamps and almost obscured gardens that complement the stony facades. Some streets take residents back to the 1830s, when English Neoclassic architecture dominated the Boston landscape. Walk over to Melrose Street to discover Greek Revival townhouses scattered amidst the brownstones.
The lack of restaurants within Bay Village does not mean residents do not have convenient access to some of the area's finest eateries. Bay Village sits just south of downtown Boston and other culinary hotspots that feature international adaptations of the fresh fish brought in from the Charles River and Atlantic Ocean. The central location near two major interstates makes Bay Village a highly coveted place to call home. Waiting lists for homes and apartments span years, if not decades. Many of the residents work in the ever-growing healthcare industry. Bay Village has one of the highest average per capita resident incomes in the region. Several bus lines run within mere blocks of Bay Village.
