Back Bay Homes for Sale
Those with an appreciation for Victorian brownstone homes should find themselves at home in Boston's iconic Back Bay neighborhood. Adjoining the Charles River to the north, Back Bay sits just west of downtown Boston in one of the most desirable urban areas found within the United States. The popular neighborhood is home to the two tallest structures that grace the Boston skyline, The Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower. Quaint streets take residents and tourists on a trip through memory lane, as many of the unique shops go back decades, if not centuries in both style and substance. Baseball fans can leave their vehicles at home for a short walk to famed Fenway Park.
Back Bay receives international acclaim for its well-preserved 19th century architecture. In addition to the multi level Brownstone homes, Back Bay boasts commercial and cultural structures that rival the architecture found in Europe. Setback requirements and deed restrictions have created uniform rows of three and four story residences that place Back Bay on the list of National Register of Historic Places. Apartment rentals typically have waiting lists that span several years. Initiated in 1963, the Back Bay Architectural Commission regulates all of the exterior changes proposed to neighborhood structures. Some of the renowned structures found within historic Back Bay include the Boston Conservatory, Goethe Institute, and Boston Public Library.
Located near numerous fresh and saltwater sources, Back Bay is replete with independent restaurants that feature the region's fresh haul of seafood. In addition to highly rated restaurants, residents of the neighborhood shop at vintage clothing stores and antique shops that present relics from as far back as the Revolutionary War. The region's public transit orange line serves Back Bay residents with only a few stops separating the neighborhood from downtown Boston and Harvard University. The orange line also provides quick access to the Hynes Convention Center.
